The winemaking of each region carries its own unique history and differences, thanks to the variety of natural gifts, landscapes and soil. Archaeological finds indicate that winemaking on the slopes of the Amalfi coast was back in the I century AD, during the reign of Ancient Rome. For sure, its history goes deeper into much later times, but we will start by studying the early Middle Ages. Vines were planted here along the shores and on the hills in the Ravello and Tramonti areas. During the Norman rule, winemaking began to develop in Agirola and Furore - these places are now one of the most famous among winemakers. In the 8th century, many vineyards were replaced by lemon groves and plantations, which still adorn the hills of the Amalfi coast.

About 30 years ago Costa d’Amalfi DOC wine began to be produced here. This zone, which is considered one of the smallest in Italy, covers 13 towns: Vietri sul Mare, Tramonti, Scala, Amalfi, Positano, Praiano, Furore, Conca dei Marini, Amalfi, Atrani, Minori, Ravello, Maiori, Cetara. The vineyards stretch at an altitude of about 100 and 650 meters above the sea level. Thanks to the soil, which has been covered with ash from the eruption of Mount Vesuvius for many centuries, the abundance of winds and the difference in day and night temperatures, ideal conditions for growing vines have been created here.

The varieties that are cultivated on the Amalfi coast are very difficult to find in other regions of Italy. The Ripolo white wine variety is most common in Furore. It is characterized by good acidity. Ginestra is distinguished by the bright aroma of yellow flowers. The aromas of apricot, citrus, honey and tropical fruits are typical for Finele. Peppela translates as little peppercorns and is characterized by spicy aromas. Biancolela with delicate vegetable flavors. Piedirosso is used to combine with other varieties to soften the wine.
