Don't miss one of the most unusual places in the world while you are in Puglia! Just an hour's drive from Bari there is an amazing town, as if descended from the pages of a fairytale.

You will not find the place like this in all the world. There is something extraordinary and even fabulous in this small town Alberobello, UNESCO Heritage site, located far away from the crowded tourist routes. This feature distinguishes it from the many settlements densely scattered throughout the south of Italy, and makes it a real diamond, lost in the countryside. The old narrow streets are built up with small snow–white houses with high conical roofs made of limestone stones - these are the famous trulli.

In fact, trulli are residential buildings that were built without cement and other bonding material. These unusual buildings were constr ucted many centires ago and about 500 years ago, this style came to the city streets. As an architectural style, Trulli has remained unchanged for centuries. Such architecture fully corresponded to the needs of the people who lived in these houses and assumed the absence of frills. Any object or detail was used in everyday life, and the basis of beauty was expediency.

On many roofs of trulli, you can see Christian and pagan symbols painted in white paint to protect against evil – they indicate the rural origin of these buildings and their inhabitants. Surprisingly, apart from Alberobello and its surroundings, located in the Puglia region, trulli are not found in any other Italian region. During the walk, visit the traditional "trullo" and a quaint church Chiesa Sant’Antonio built in the same style, definitely taste local sweets, liqueurs and wines. After your tour in Aberobello stop in one authentic Apulian masseria, farmhouse or winery to try fresh traditional cousine and wine.
