Close to Syracuse or Catania, in the Noto area you can find one of the most beautiful coastal Sicilian ancient fishing towns - Marzamemi. Be sure to arrange your tour to this charming town while traveling in Sicily.

The small and colorful streets of Marzamemi are like illustrations for a fairy-tale book. Every corner here is perfect for a photo shoot: colorful Sicilian ceramic pots, balconies and windows decorated with flowers, small comfortably decorated Sicilian bars and cafes, bright fishing boats in the port. One aesthetic pleasure for the eyes and soul.
All this creates an incredible comfort, a great mood and a great combination with history.
Marzamemi is a fishing village that originated in the 10th century around the traditional tuna fishing system – tonnara, built by the Arabs. The appearance of the city today is the result of the reconstruction of the XVIII century commissioned by the Villadorata family. During this period, the residence of the Prince of Palazzo Villadorata, the church of St. Francesco Paola, was built. Fishermen's houses date back to the XVII century.

There are two ports in Marzamemi – Fossa and Balata. Merchant ships sailed from here. The wine trade between Marzamemi and Genoa was especially active. The port of Balat is spacious and forms an area. In summer, it is filled with tables of bars and cafes.

When leaving the city center, take a look at the market. There is a good selection of tuna in jars with different sauces. In 1912, a large factory for the production of salted tuna and tuna in oil was opened in Marzamemi.
